I live in rural New Brunswick which provides most of the subject matter of my paintings. I have a three-wheeled bicycle with a large basket on the back where I can store my paints, a chair and a table and anything else needed. When I am painting, I am in a world of pure concentration. My goal is to create spontaneous, balanced and authentic works of art with the hope that people who see my art will feel the same kind of pleasure that I do.

Esther Mary Curtiss and Mary Letitia Graham (My mother and my Great Grandmother), Oil on Canvas, 5ft x 4ft
Joyce, this is an absolutely stunning portrait. It is so lively! I love the way you have added the tools from their lives to give it context. How big is this portrait? I think it is terriffic! Sally
This is wonderful, Joyce. And the scale is surprising too. I noticed that you had another 5 foot one in this series as well. I can only imagine taking a small snapshot like that from such a long time ago and breathing life into it as you have.
Thanks, Martha. I don't think I would have the energy to do such large paintings now, but just after my mother died I had bags of it and the desire to remember her besides. I could have magnified the image, but I didn't for some reason.
