I live in rural New Brunswick which provides most of the subject matter of my paintings. I have a three-wheeled bicycle with a large basket on the back where I can store my paints, a chair and a table and anything else needed. When I am painting, I am in a world of pure concentration. My goal is to create spontaneous, balanced and authentic works of art with the hope that people who see my art will feel the same kind of pleasure that I do.
A very nice rendering of swans. Your style is uncluttered yet it offers a lot of interesting detail. I intend to visit your other paintings over the next days.
I guess that while in NB you paint pleine air and when you travel you paint afterwards from photos that you've taken. Am I right? In any case, your paintings are vibrant and well-composed.
Congratulations, Michael
P.S., It may be interesting to accompany your paintings with a small note that either explains your technique or something about the scene.
Hi Michael, thanks for visiting and commenting on my work. I know a lot of artists explain what they are doing and give a lot more information on their work than I do. You are quite right that I do plein air paintings in the summer when I can get outside to do so. When I visit other places, it is usually easier to take photos and then use them for painting. I would prefer to do all my paintings from nature, but that is not possible where I live.
I try to pick titles that explain the paintings. I am right now going through all my "how-to-paint" books that I have accumulated over the years and truly trying to learn other techniques. I hope at the end of the year, there will be some real changes in my work.
